Il bellissimo borgo si divide in due..la parte vecchia e quella nuova.

La Monterosso Vecchia presenta le stesse caratteristiche degli altri paesi delle Cinque Terre, e' dominata dalla mole poderosa dei resti del 'castrum' obertengo, con la bella parrocchiale di San Giovanni Battista.

Un moderno quartiere residenziale si snoda invece lungo la passeggiata a mare nell'insenatura di Fegina, che dà il suo nome alla zona.

Tante le cose da vedere…

Il convento dei Cappuccini con la chiesa di San Francesco conserva veri e propri tesori dell’arte tra cui la "Crocifissione" del celebre pittore fiammingo Antoon van Dyck, "San Girolamo penitente" di Luca Cambiaso, il refettorio a volte con "La Veronica" di Bernardo Strozzi.

Bellissimi sentieri panoramici si inerpicano per il colle,orti e piccole porte che si aprono sul blu dalle mille sfumature del mare.

Incontriamo poi Torre Aurora che faceva parte della cinta muraria difensiva edificata nel XVI secolo dalla Repubblica di Genova per fronteggiare le frequesnti incursioni dei pirati che dominava i mari liguri…

Passando nella parte nuova di Monterosso, la Fegina, l'attrazione maggiore è rappresentata dalla statua del Gigante che domina la spiaggia libera, di grosse dimensioni e incastonata in uno sperone roccioso.

Realizzata nel 1910 La Grossa statua rappresenta Nettuno il dio del mare,purtoppo in parte risulta distrutta dai bombardamenti durante la II guerra mondiale.
